As became clear yesterday, we're starting to get mixed messages about what is going to happen next. So, this morning, I attempted to get some clarity on this and ended up even more confused than I had been!
Rather that give you all the same mixed messages it seems simpler to simply state that any number of scenarios can occur. The only thing that is certain is that Vicki's next chemotherapy will be a high dose over a shorter period. Although we're not sure when this will begin, when it eventually does it will be for 5 days. The drug will be 6 times more powerful than the dose that Vicki had previously.
The intensity of this treatment means that it may have an effect on her eyes, so she'll be on 2 hourly eye drops for 10 days. Yes, every 2 hours, including through the night. So she's going to have a pretty hellish time for a week and a half. Bless her, like she's not been through enough.
Her blood counts remain low, and later today she'll have another full blood transfusion, and platelets as well. After a few days of poor appetite, Vicki's starting feeling like eating again, and even had a whole sandwich this morning. Well, alright, not a whole one, but most of one! I think a pending visit from her boyfriend is making her feel chirpy, which is always nice to see.
As has been the case over the last few days, it's quite frustrating waiting for her counts to come up, as there is nothing you can do to help the little critters on their way. Patience, as ever, is required, also in large doses.
