The last 5 days Vicki has been at home, and it's been so lovely so have her around. She tells me the best thing has been sleeping in her own bed. For the first time she's had some respite from the constant noise of a busy hospital ward.
We've not been entirely hospital free though, we needed 2 visits back to the Royal for medication, and 1 visit to Glenfield for an ultrasound on Vicki's heart, which I'm glad to report was fine. Now Vicki's back as an in-patient, and is settling back into her routine, I'd thought I'd take some time to reflect on our break from 'the cubicle'!
Vicki's been gradually rebuilding her strength. Having spent 5 days in ICU, and the following 2 weeks confined to her cubicle, her muscles have not had much work to do. Whilst in hospital the physio would regularly visit to work on her muscles. Some work on the Wii, and a few shopping trips started to build both her strength and confidence up. Every day has seen some marked improvements in her condition, so we're hoping that the chemotherapy won't quite be so bad for her this time around as she's starting from a higher point in terms of her immune system.
It's also nicer to come into hospital as a planned visit rather than as an emergency in ambulance as it was last time. We all feel so much more relaxed with the whole process now. There's no room for complacency though, the fortnight ahead will be tough.
Whilst at home we had some sickness and some other minor issues, but nothing much to write home about. I spent some time constantly reassuring Vicki, and building her confidence up as it's clear the the leukaemia has chipped away at her self esteem. She'll need lots of visits from her friends over the coming weeks, so come on guys, get visiting!
Now we're back, I'll provide regular updates, I know a few of you have missed them!
