Second Home Leave

Finally after all the waiting of yesterday, I got to bring Vicki home. The hospital do like to keep us guessing though. After dangling the carrot of home leave in front of us last week, we were left waiting yesterday until just around lunchtime to know for sure. During the morning ritual of the doctors round we were told that Vicki might be coming home. So we waiting in eager anticipation of the news, but none came. Until, that is, a nurse came in and casually mentioned in passing "oh I see you're going home today...", to which the reply came in stereo "Really? No-one's told us!". This left the nurse scuttling off to check, and after a further agonising wait, the confirmation came. Brilliant! Sadly, as told in yesterday's blog entry, it took several hours before we could actually leave the building though.

We didn't let this dampen our spirits though. Vicki was particularly excited as she knew that by being allowed home on a Wednesday she could go to Explorers, and surprise everyone there who of course would not be expecting her. Had she been allowed home a day later, and she would've missed the chance to go this week and next week, as she would've been back in hospital by Wednesday. If she'd been out more than a day later, then she wouldn't have been able to spring the surprise that she did as news of her home leave would have filtered around her peers. It was lovely to see the reaction of her friends who were rather excited to say the least at her surprise appearance. Of course, boyfriend Andy was in attendance, he was the only one who had been briefed on Vicki's arrival. She was on such a high when I picked her up that I felt for a little while that none of the preceding 8 weeks had happened.

Sadly though reality bites when I got some bad news from elsewhere in the family. Life huh!
