We arrived after fighting through the Leicester traffic at god-knows-when-o'clock this morning, and were allocated a cubicle. I unpacked all Vicki's things while she went through the 'check-in' process. The doctor came along and told us that they were going to give Vicki a Lumber Puncture, and that would take place today. Shortly after, he returned and said that they weren't convinced her blood counts were high enough and that they'd take a sample to check, so we may be coming home after the procedure.
So off Vicki went to have the procedure. As I returned back from the procedure room, one of the nurses tell me that unfortunately, an isolation case had come in, so they needed the cubicle, and we had to move to the ward. So I took the time that Vicki was having her operation to decant to the ward.
The doctor came in to confirm that Vicki's blood counts were fine, and that she would be staying in. As Vicki left the procedure room, I was then told that she'd be taken to the day room to recover as we'd be going home afterwards. Are you following this? So I started to move her stuff to the day room so I could be with her whilst packing to come home. The doctor then spotted me and said she would be staying after all, her counts were OK. So I did a swift about turn, and was just about to return to the ward when they realised that as different staff seemed to have a different version of whether we were in, out, in, out, or shake it all about, they really ought to refer to the Consultant actually in charge of Vicki's care.
He came in to see us and explained that although Vicki's counts are up, and over the usual level to start treatment, he wants to allow her immune system a little more time to recover, so she can come home and return to hospital for her treatment to start at 8:00 on Monday morning. OK, everybody got that? So, altogether now, that's what its all about...!
