The eyes have it

Finally, the day when the eye drops stop is upon us. It felt like this day would never come. But as ever, something else looms over the horizon before we have a chance to take a breath. The medical team are now concerned that Vicki is losing weight. Well, hello? She's had hardly any sleep for 10 days, and she's had a high dose of cytarabine. Hardly a recipe for a healthy appetite now is it? But rather than take this into account, the suggestion (no, more of a threat) was that if she doesn't start regaining the weight then they will have to put her on TPN (a food drip). Now I understand the important role nutrition plays in the rebuilding of her immune system, but it seems a little much to have this concern now. Yes, in a weeks time, when she's had some good quality sleep, but not now.

Vicki remains quite well in herself, and is really looking forward to a good nights sleep. Who can blame her. She's quite lethargic though, and needs constant pushing to do just about anything. Sadly the weather has contributed to a lack of visitors, so I was glad to see the forecast of improvements to come.

With Vicki in hospital for the foreseeable future, Christmas has lost all meaning. I've tried really hard to be festive. I've got a CD in the car of all the old Christmas favourites, but I just find myself flicking through each track, and then putting the radio on. Even my old favourite Radio 1 has been ditched for Radio 5, at least until Moyles is back in the morning, and Mills at tea time. They were just about the only elements of routine that I had. Might switch to Evans in the New Year. Oh the joy of having trivial decisions to make!

As I sit here typing this, Vicki is making Christmas presents, nice to see her being creative, and what's she's made is really good. Obviously I can't tell you what she's making in case the intended recipients are reading this!

Anyway, I'll be having a brief break from the blog over the next few days. I'd like to take this opportunity of thanking you all for your support, and to wish you a very Merry Christmas.
