The storm passes

Vicki had her operation yesterday is now resting. She's thankful that Thursday's debacle is now over, and although it's a set back, we're back on the road to recovery.

When the doctor came to see her this morning, my NHS job means that although I am not a medic, I've picked up enough to know what questions to ask. The doctors will say encouraging things, but as a man of science I want evidence. How do her inflammation markers compare? What's her white blood cell count? Is her temperature still spiking?

I can tell you that although below their highest rating, her inflammation markers are steady. Her white blood cell count which had been nil, is now rising steadily. Her temperature is still spiking but not as often, and not as high. OK, I will take this as steady progress.

I spoke with the nurse involved in Thursday episode, and she was apologetic and sympathetic. I won't be making a formal complaint, but have asked that an "Incident" report is raised. Again from my insider knowledge, this will carry more weight than a complaint. Lets hope the whole sorry affair can be put behind us now.

  1. I understand your descision to not persue the problems you mentioned, god knows that if it was my girl i would be so bloody angry for such a "schoolboy error" on the part of the staff involved. Mate, i have 3 kids and i know what you are feeling when you get angry at the childish comments and diggs that you are being subject too. When I have my own "bad days"...not anything like the ones that Vikki has bless her, but days when my energy is low and the thoughts about my own condition weigh heavy on my mind, sometimes my own kids can seem soooo thoughtless and selfish, but i try to remember that at their age I may also have been a long way off of "sensitive" to my parents problems, so I just get on with it...the fatigue passes, and we are just a normal family again. Hope that the situation improves in relation to the healthcare Vikki is receiving, and that the "shot across the bows" makes the staff wake up and consider the fact that they are in your trust...and anyone who has the best care of our children in their hands has a very great resposibilty.Take care.Andy

  3. Glad things are better today! Sorry for leaving a message three times yesterday - couldn't get it accepted but then it seems to have accepted it three times - sorry about that.
I will say about your friends issues that along the way you may well loose some so called friends. We certainly did - but this is because they just can't handle the situation - and to be honest we came to the conclusion that it was their problem. We didn't have a choice - we had to cope - if they couldn't handle it then they were no good to us anyway. It really is all a very steep learning curve! Hope your weekend goes OK! Love Anita X
